The House

The House of Moncler

Moncler was founded in 1952 in the French Alpine village of Monestier-de-Clermont by Rene Ramillon and Andre Vincent, its name an abbreviation of that mountain home and its purpose to equip those who entrusted it with their lives.

Beginning with sleeping bags, tents and hooded capes, the house created its first down jackets in 1954 for its own factory workers, garments soon refined by mountaineers for the most extreme conditions.

That same year Moncler outfitted the historic Italian expedition to K2, and the brand became the trusted choice of polar explorers and Olympic ski teams across the following decades.

In 2003 the Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini acquired the house and moved it to Milan, transforming a technical specialist into a global icon of luxury outerwear without sacrificing its alpine soul.

Today Moncler unites mountain heritage with high fashion, its glossy down jackets bridging the worlds of performance and luxury as effortlessly as the peak meets the city street.
