The House

The House of Lanvin

Founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889, Lanvin is the oldest French fashion house in continuous operation, born when a young Parisian milliner began making clothes for the daughter she adored.

That devotion gave the house its emblem, a drawing of mother and daughter hand in hand, and its spirit: Lanvin's earliest designs were created for her child, then for the elegant mothers who longed to dress alike.

Jeanne Lanvin became renowned for the robe de style, her romantic full-skirted silhouette, and for an inimitable shade of cornflower blue, Lanvin Blue, inspired by the frescoes of Fra Angelico.

A perfectionist of embellishment, she pioneered intricate beadwork, embroidery and quilting, and built one of the first true lifestyle houses, expanding into menswear, interiors, and the perfume Arpege.

Today Lanvin endures as a guardian of French couture heritage, its romance, its craft, and its tender origins still woven into a vision of timeless Parisian grace.
